Do you know how to tell if you have damage to your rug due to moths and other insect pests? Good quality rugs can last hundreds of years but moths and other pest can eat holes in your rugs very quickly and cause massive damage. Sometimes this damage cannot be repaired.
So let’s take a look at the warning signs. There are 2 things to look for when you suspect moth or bug damage to your rug. First, look at the bottom of your rug. If you have moth damage you will see moth larva. Moth larva looks like sticky lint or spider webs stuck to the bottom of your rug. Next, look for areas where the wool pile has been eaten away. This will look like little divots in the wool pile. If you rug has a cotton foundation, bugs will eat the wool and leave the cotton foundation. If your rug is 100% wool they will eat all the way through. If you suspect bug damage, you need to bring your rug to be washed right away to stop the progression of further damage. If you have an active infestation, you will need to have a pest control company take care of that for you before you will be able to bring it to us for washing. You may also want the pest control company take a look at the rest of your home to be sure that there are not other active infestations that need immediate attention as well.
