There are 2 mistakes that are easy to avoid that cut life of the rugs. We will help you identify these mistakes and keep your rugs looking their best for as long as we can!
There are 3 factors that affect the need for cleaning and overall life of your rugs. The first is the general location and activity level where your rug is located. Most rugs are located in high traffic areas where there is a lot of dirt and foot traffic.
The second factor is the quality of the materials used in the manufacture of your rug. Many modern rugs are chemically washed to soften the face yarn and give them shine. This also damages the wool and can shorten the life of the rug. There is not much you can do about the level of foot traffic in the area where the rug is located nor can you control how the rug is made and treated prior to purchase. However, the third factor you can control!
The final factor that affects your rugs life is whether or not your rug gets proper vacuuming or maintenance on a frequent or consistent basis. Most rug owners do not vacuum enough or they vacuum them improperly. You see, dust settles on your rugs much like all of the other surfaces in you home. Add to that the dirt that is tracked onto your rug by regular foot traffic and you have a recipe for worn and dirty rugs quickly. This dirt and dust starts at the very tips of the rug fibers but over time works it’s way down to the base of the yarns and finally into the base of the rug. Over time this wears your rug out as the fibers are being cut by the abrasive surfaces of the dirt.
The best way to prevent this damage is to break this cycle by making sure that you are vacuuming your rug. The next step is to make sure that you have your rugs immersion washed to remove the dirt from the foundation of your rug every 1-3 years.
