Abrash is the natural variation in color and texture caused by differences in material texture and dyes used. Abrash is the striped appearance that you can sometimes see within the same color area of your rug. This is not a flaw nor damage that has been done to your rug, but the natural beauty resulting from the way the rug was woven.
Wool has subtle variations in texture and color much like natural hair on a persons head will. Also, different seasons can cause more of these variations in the wool therefore causing the abrrash in your rug.
Another factor for the abrash in your rug is the dye that is used and the dye process. Each batch of dye can be slightly different causing slight variations in the color of the wool that is dyed using it.
Abrash is in ever single woven rug but is more pronounced in tribal rugs. This is because the dyes used in tribal rugs are made of various plants and insects and are all natural. This will cause a more noticeable abrash. Abrash is one of the many things that gives your rug character and we hope that you can enjoy this natural beauty in your home as much as we do!
You may notice the abrash more after a washing due to the fact that the dirt and dust that dulled your rug and gave it a more uniform looking color has been stripped away in the wash process. This is not a flaw in the wash process nor is it damage to your rug, just a normal part of your rug and the wash process.
